Jukebox the Ghost is Fame-ish
Updated: Feb 26, 2023
And that is exaclty why they are one of my all time favorite bands. Though I wish they could hit the big stardom steps so more people can know just how talented Ben, Tommy, and Jesse are, part of me is very content with the fact that they remain approachable and consider themselves fame-sh.
Fame-ish, /ˈfāmish/
adjective
The act of being not really famous while simultaneously kind of famous.
Jukebox the Ghost is an incredibly talented fame-ish band.
The most appealing part of the group is the range in themes and sounds throughout their catalog. If you took a bold assumption, one could guess that is reflective of how different each member of the band is. While I think that may have been the case in the early early days, by seeing their YouTube Vlogs, listening to their on stage banter, and now being able to get an unflitered listen into the conversations the three guys have put into pod form, it's apparent they all are able to commit to the bit. Their conversations make something out of seemingly nothing, insert a reference to Jesse's non sequiturs here, that have more or less blended into a common style and perspective. Though lyrically they cover a lot and it seems like night in day in the motifs Ben and Tommy choose to write, the glue that makes Jukebox the Ghost work is simply the genuine connection they have with one another and with their fans.
I have not seen too many headliners come out to the floor after playing for an hour and a half to hangout with the fans that stuck around. I especially don't know many groups that have such an open line of communication and interest in their fan's lives like the guys of JtG do.
This post was initially going to be a blurb on my thoughts on their new podcast Fame-ish , which is phenomenal if you would like to here stories about long time indie tour pros, even if you don't know their music.
But as I am typing out my words I am just taken back to how influential a band and their art can be when you least expect it. I certainly did not set out to find a group I would want to see live multiple times, in my case nearing the coveted double digit number of 10, nor did I expect to give them an invitation to my wife and I's wedding when I heard my first Jukebox the Ghost song. And I certainly did not anticipate to have Tommy, the guitarist, send me a video for our 5 year wedding anniversary or have the ability to pick his brain on my creative projects and get bits of feedback from a creative I admire greatly.
I have a sentimental and deep connection to music in ways I cannot fully describe in words. That feeling I have for music in general goes in tandem with the art and music of Jukebox the Ghost. I am forever sending positity to the guys of the group and wish them all the success in the world, even though a large part of me is good with them staying Fame-ish.
