TikTok Strikes Again: Austin and the Powers

I haven't had enough time for the ink to dry on the rough draft over how TikTok has hugely influenced how I discover new bands before scrolling and coming across one of my favorite band names in the history of music.

Austin and the Powers made their way onto my For You Page early this morning with a video sampling a groovy ass bop I had to listen to in full.

Nexus (Is it over) is a great intro to a Small Time, Big Sound kinda band like Austin and the Powers. Yeah Baaby, yeah!

The track is upbeat and feels like it could fill the ambience of a patio lit with edison bulbs as its only source of light where, depending on where in the US you are, your drink could be a two for one special on wells or an overpriced cocktail. I don't usually like to describe something as vibes...okay that is a bold faced lie, I use the word vibes all the time, but I digress. Nexus is all about the vibes. The vocals on the track have early Panic! delivery and the guitar flows more like the breeze on the beach vs. the temperate forest biome enviroment the band hails from. Pennsylvania. The band is from Pennsylvania.

With a notable 52,000 monthly listeners on Spotify at the time I am writing this, if the TikTok algorithm decides to highlight this band as the flavor of the week, I anticipate that number to skyrocket in the coming weeks.
