Top 4 Apps to get the most out of Spotify
Updated: Mar 21, 2023
There are several ways people consume their music. The most basic form is simply listening to artists you like or turn on the radio to hear what the pop charts are pushing out. However, those who are looking to get more out of their music probably use the Release Radar and Discover Weekly playlists Spotify curates, which is great. Their algorithm and usability for finding new artists and music to fit every mood is really simple to digest. Then there is a group people who want the absolute most out of their music. They want to catelog more than what Spotify Wrapped provides, they want to discover new genres based on a very specific song, or they simply want to flaunt how obscure and unique their music profile is. For those in that last group, you have come to the right place. I am going to provide insight and resources to help you get exactly what you want out of your music.
Now a few house keeping items, I do have Spotify Premium and I don't know compatibility with the free version or with any other music streaming sites like Tidal or Apple Music. Each of these websites require approving access to your Spotify data so that they can analyze your profile. Several apps and sites are free to use, but often will have premium verisons of the product. There is only one I have paid premium for because I wanted to have full statistics on my entire Spotify listening history.
Without further delay, here is my list of top 5 websites and apps to help you get the most out of Spotify.
Stats.FM
If you are looking for the deepest dive into your listening history, look no further that Stats (dot) FM. Available online and in the appstore, Stats provides exactly that, stats. And rankings of Top listeners.
Click into any song on your list and get insight on how many times you've streamed the track, how many minutes consumed, and a popularity score based on the algorithm's data.
For your band nerds, Stats FM also digs into the Key/BPM/Time Signature of each song analyzed.
Profiles highlight Number of Streams, Minutes/Hours, Number of Different Tracks streamed over the course of 4 weeks, 6 months, and lifetime (requires downloading your complete streaming data from Spotify)
Artist profiles highlight similar items as users, noting Total Times Streamed, Total Minutes Streams and more. Also highlighted are top users ranked, popular tracks, and genres the artists fits into.
Check out Stats.FM if you are waiting your own personal analytics on your listening habits or insight into your favorite artists.
Chosic
For those who want to quickly figure out exactly what genre a song or artist falls into, Chosic is the easiest site I have found so far.
Not only is Chosic great for dtermining the style and genres your music fits into, it gives you full control at organizing your Spotify playlists. The website is pretty advertisement heavy but disregarding the targeted adds is second nature once you start reordering your playlists into popularity score, BPM or Genre.
After logging in to your Spotify profile, select the playlist you want to organize and tweek and sort your tracks in the table shown above. Easily remove any duplicates from your playlist, or copy songs with the same data point to a new playlist to get your music to fit in every part of your day.
Chosic has a lot more to offer than just organizing your playlists and determining genres, but it is the best tool I have found to hone in on those two aspects of music.
Setlist. FM and Playlists
If you are wanting to easily generate a playlist based on the opening night to Taylor Swift's ERAS Tour, Setlist (dot) fm (dot) selbi (dot) club in combination with Setlist FM is going to be your best bet.
Copy the setlist URL into the site to easily generate a playlist for your profile so you can relive the show over and over again.
It would be weird if that (the whole Taylor Swift thing) is the only thing you could do with this method, so I would recommend finding your favorite concert you've attended and copy the Setlist FM URL and paste it into Setlist.FM.Selbi
Similiarly, the app available on Apple, Setlistify takes the same principle. Copy a setlist found on Setlist FM and generate a playlist directly from the app to your Spotify profile.
Obscurify Music
If you think you have the most obscure music taste of your friend group, now there is a site to back that up. Obscurify is a hipstiers dream come true in the sense that the site is able to take the data of your Spotify library and tell the world just how unique your music taste is.
A snapshot of your Spotify profile is presented to you, first with your top genres then a ranking of exactly how obscure your music range is.
In case you needed additional visuals for where you rank, Obscurify also provides a bell curve style line graph to show exactly where you stand amongs your selected country.
Head over the Obscurify and see where you rank amongs the average.
